Here we have the Hot Toys Iron Man 2, Iron Man Mark VI! If you own Mark IV do you need Mark VI? Well, need, probably not… Want? Maybe yes. They are similar and they have a similar color scheme. But like the leap from Mark III to Mark III Battle Damaged, Hot Toys has taken the opportunity to add tons of new goodies. If you don’t own a Mark IV and are wondering which one to get then maybe I can help with that decision. Maybe not but I’ll try. 🙂 I will compare to the Mark IV but I think the comments will stand on their own too.The sculpting is sleek and angular. Some highlights include the triangular arc reactor and cogs and servos under the removable chest plate, the detail under the flaps on the back, the arm missiles and the pistons inside the legs. The alternate unmasked Tony Stark head is brilliant looking but unfortunately does not appear to be a new sculpt. But this version comes with alternate “battle damaged” components as well. These allow you to display him as he appears at the end of the movie (all beat up) or varying degrees in between. The damage on these parts adds great detail and it’s all sculpted. This adds a great dynamic look to him on the shelf.Paint is red, gold and silver with hidden bits of black. This is one area where the VI is subtlety but very nicely differentiated from the IV. The IV is pretty red heavy. The Mark VI is much more balanced with gold and red in the top half about the same as the Mark IV but with solid golden thighs. In addition the knees, biceps and some bits on the thighs are silver, and there are other small paint differences as you investigate more closely. There is also a bit of a dirty or smoky tinge to some of the parts, not damaged, per se but maybe a few minutes into the fight. The actual battle damaged parts are done up great with lots of inner detail under the damaged dents and rips. His articulation is great – but with one exception is no different than the Mark IV. The neck is on a double ball and the bottom ball is on a forward and back hinge so you can get a great amount of movement. The 360 degree shoulders are present as are double pin elbows and ball wrists. The gauntlets around the hands rotate quite a bit and are hinged in the middle. The hands are the new awesome fully articulated hands – all finger joints are there and they can take any pose. He rotates at the chest and has the new, cool, bendy and twisty waist. If you pull up he’ll snap apart slightly and you can then bend and twist him about 45 degrees. This joint seems to have been improved and moves much more smoothly this time around (and I’m not the only one to say so). The hips move out quite a bit and forward and back. They also rotate a bit at the top with one piece that slides into another. Double pin knees and versatile ankles round him out. Here are the special features the Mark VI has in common with the Mark IV: The flaps on the back. Two small shoulder flaps and two larger two piece flaps with metal grills inside. The undamaged removable chest plate, pop out countermeasure devices on the hips and opening air brakes on the calves are present. And the eyes, palms (except on the fisted hands) and chest light all light up. In addition to those the Mark VI also has pop out mini-missile launchers on both shoulders and under the gauntlets are the small super lasers he used at the end of the film. Both of these are an awesome addition but a little tricky to use. Using the included “function stick” really helps this time around. His accessories in common with Mark IV include four forearm panels for each arm that can be swapped out so that he has the multiple missiles poking out. He has four sets of hands – fisted, relaxed, splayed and articulated. And while he does not have an unhelmuted head, he does come with a ring to put around the neck if you choose to use the unhelmuted head that came with the Mark IV.Additional accessories are: the swappable heads and faceplates. This is different this time. There is one head with the Tony Stark face and one with the light up feature but this time they made it where the faceplate can be taken off the light up head so you can swap them from one to the other. This is a cool new and welcome feature. The damaged faceplate has deep scars sculpted in. There is a battle damaged chest piece with a large hole blasted in it and there are interchangeable thigh plates with battle damage. The right shoulder armor pulls off to be replaced with a damaged piece as does the right bicep (which is magnetically held on so be careful not to knock it off and loose it). And the ENTIRE left arm comes off to be replaced by a fully battle damaged one and includes light up feature and all. You do need to add either the missile closed or open panels to it to complete it.The standard Hot Toys figure stand is included but also a special base made to look like the…

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

This review is from: Hot Toys Iron Man Mark VI – Marvel 12 Inch Doll Figure Iron Man 2 (Toy)

I received this figure today from Amazon seller Toys On Fire. Figure is breathtaking to say the least. This is an engineered museum quality miniature replica and not a toy despite the company name. Features include the articulated waist and fingers like the Mark IV and in addition regular and battle damaged armor, battle damaged arm, helmeted Tony Stark head, diorama display base, shoulder guns and more. I would recommend displaying the figure as it comes and not risking what looks like inevitable damage by replacing parts as attachments are fine or delicate-easily cracked. Figure I have is displayed on regular base and in regular armor. I’ll change to the Tony Stark head on occasion-looks like he did before he dealt with the Whiplash droids. This FIGURE IS ALREADY SCARCE and the best price was offerred on Amazon. Pricey but actually reasonable right now considering its collectible value-could conceivably double in value in a month. Get it while you can!
